Our History & Vision
A club with a rich history & a vibrant future.
Established in 1873, Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club is the longest running sports club in Wexford Town. It has been a cornerstone of the community, providing exceptional facilities for tennis and watersports enthusiasts for 150 years.
Club History
Founded as Wexford Boat Club in 1873 as a rowing club, tennis was introduced in 1883.
Sailing came to the club in the 1920’s. As tennis was such an integral part of the club, in 1994 we changed our name to Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club or WHBTC as it is commonly known. Our club colours are crimson and white and the club crest and burgee is the old Coat of Arms of the Town of Wexford.
Our Vision
Our vision is to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where members of all ages and skill levels can enjoy tennis, boating, and social events. We are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle, developing sportsmanship, and supporting local talent.

Club Policies
Whilst we want our junior members to have fun and enjoy their time at the club, we want them to do so safely and with respect for each other, for coaches, members and other players & visitors.
Our Management Committee are elected every year at the Club AGM and manage the club according to the Club Constitution.
- WHBTC does not accept responsibility for independent recreational play e.g. two juniors arriving at the club on their own to play a game or children being left unsupervised while their parents/guardians/carers are playing tennis or otherwise.
- Children are very welcome in the club and clubhouse, however, we would stress that parents advise their children to heed caution when on our club balcony & staircase ie no running, jumping or horse-play is allowed.
- WHBTC has adopted and implemented the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport as set out by Irish Sailing & Tennis Ireland as an integral part of club policy on children and club membership. Upon joining the Club or renewal of annual membership, all members agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and the club’s Child Protection Policy. These codes and policies are set out below, and all members and their children should read and become familiar with them.
Child Protection Officers
The Club Child Protection Officers are available should any member have any questions or require any assistance in relation to child protection in the club.
