A MESSAGE FROM JOHNNY CASEY, BOATING CAPTAIN & TRISH GALLAGHER, VICE BOATING CAPTAIN

We hope that all is well with you and your loved ones as we progress through this situation imposed upon us by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are delighted to share with you the latest ISA guidelines in relation to Phase 1 of the easing of restrictions, effective 18th May, 2020.  Although this is an ISA document, it’s guidelines are applicable to all boating activities.  The ISA also provide a very useful Q and A website : https://www.sailing.ie/Coronavirus/Q-and-A

It’s a small step and unfortunately is in no way a return to business as usual.  There are further phases to follow and we will keep you updated.

Please bear in mind that all the information outlined within this email is subject to change and to the final approval of Government agencies, the Coastguard etc... So whilst we are aiming for the 18th, the date will in all likelihood be later as we have some further preparation and work to do to keep everyone safe.

The main points to note are:

    • Not more than 5 km from your home to your launch site/boat
    • Launch and retrieve from home port

Please note that the clubhouse currently remains closed.

Please observe the following 4 fundamental principles at all times:

    1. COMPLY WITH CURRENT COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS

We need to be fully compliant with the phased lifting of restrictions to ensure sailing, windsurfing and powerboating remains a ‘low risk’ activity.

    2. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Take personal responsibility for your own safety and decision making

    3. SELF HELP

Ensure that you have the means to return to shore without assistance (alternative means of propulsion) in the event of the unexpected in non-distress situations

    4. RISK ASSESSMENT

Individual and Activity Organisers ensure you have assessed the risks associated with the conditions, equipment, experience of sailors, sailing area etc. before making the decision to go afloat.

Please ensure that your boat is in good order and that the weather is suitable for all trips so as to eliminate the need for emergency services call outs.

     CRANE AND POWERHOSE

The Crane has been repaired and is available for use.  The Honesty Box for crane tokens will be left beside the crane controls and we would ask members to respect and use it. There has been significant expenditure on the crane, and it will likely require more maintenance during the year. By respecting the honesty box system, we can make some small contribution to funding the maintenance.

Guidelines for both crane and power hose use that must be followed are attached.

If there is someone already using the crane to launch/retrieve their craft, PLEASE REMAIN IN THE CARPARK UNTIL THEY HAVE FINISHED!!

    Happy boating.

    Johnny and Trish
